It will not often be considered the most lucrative game in the universe of wagering, but keno has tons of fanatical fans. And so it should! It’s a consistently entertaining lottery-ish game that’s a breeze to learn, readily available in several alternate formats, and one that may return mega-dollars for people who learn its countless subtle rules. But let’s deal with the beginner’s rules for now.

When explaining keno to newbies, some wagering pros compare it to lotto. This is at least tolerably correct, in that both games are basically numerical. Yet to carry that comparison too far might be to discount the innumerable unique traits that make keno so compelling. Unlike bingo, keno players have the ability to choose the numbers for each and every card.

Keno cards have a grand total of eighty numbers, but the player is granted an additional degree of personal responsibility by being able to choose as many (or as few) numbers as he thinks is appropriate. And it doesn’t take a keno superstar to figure out how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your desired numbers with a standardmarker like you had when you were a kid.

Now that you’ve selected your numbers, carry the keno card back to the keno pit manager at the keno stand. The nice person will record those numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not drop this (potentially) lucrative bit of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers you and wants help out, without a winning receipt with you, you will collect precisely $.00 for your time spent.

OK, so there you have strategy #1: always be sure to keep your keno receipt. Let’s get on to something a little bit more advanced, yes?

Once you’ve selected your numbers, settle into a comfy keno booth and see the action take place on the big keno monitor. That is where the winning numbers are shown in lights. If you marked winning numbers, mark your card aptly. Be sure not to take too much time, or sit there praising yourself for too great a length of time. You must get up to the keno stand to redeem your winnings, as a new round of keno will most likely start up within five minutes.

Strategy #2: always make it back to the keno booth on time!

Since you do not trust yourself to meet that 5 minute deadline each and every time, you always have the option of buying a "multi-race" ticket. These include the self same set of your desired numbers on anywhere from two to 20 slips. When the maximum amount of rounds (the same as the amount of tickets) is completed, you will then be able to get off your numb back side and go collect your winnings.

Still another alternative is referred to as a "stray and play" keno slip, which generally allows you make number choices for thirty games or more. Hell, you can take an ocean cruise and not have to get uptight about getting back in time to redeem your numbers. Most "stray and play" tickets are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!

So now you are aware of a few needed strategies for winning keno. If you are an adept keno player, they may seem to be stupidly obvious. But it will not hurt to study up on the basics, and if you are a newbie user, every little bit of direction will help make your keno playing more entertaining.
