It will not ordinarily be thought of as the most lucrative game in the world of gambling, but keno has millions and millions of steadfast players. And it should! It’s a regularly entertaining lotto-style game that’s easy to pickup, readily available in a number of different variations, and one that can yield millions for those who learn its many subtle nuances. But let’s deal with the basic rules here.

When explaining keno to newbies, some wagering masters compare it to lotto. This is at least tolerably apt, in that each game is generally numerical. However, to carry that comparison too far will be to think too little of the many unique traits that make keno so interesting. Unlike bingo, keno users have the freedom to choose the numbers for each and every card.

Keno cards have a grand total of eighty numbers, but the gambler is furnished with an additional degree of personal responsibility by being able to choose as many (or as few) numbers as she desires. And it doesn’t take a genius to determine how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all of your chosen numbers with a normal#2 pencil like you used when you were in school.

Now that you have picked your numbers, take the card back to the nice person at the keno booth. The person will record those numbers and then give you a receipt. Don’t drop this (potentially) expensive piece of paper! Even if the keno pit manager remembers your pretty face and would like to help out, without a winning slip on you, you will get exactly $.00 for your actions.

OK, so there you have strategy #1: always make sure to keep your keno ticket. Let’s move to something a bit more complicated, shall we?

After you’ve selected your numbers, get into a comfy keno booth and observe the action happen on the monitor. This is where the winning numbers show up for all to see. If you’ve got winners, mark your card appropriately. Make sure not to drag your feet, or sit there congratulating yourself for too great a length of time. You must get back to the keno booth to redeem your winnings, since a new keno game will likely start up within 5 minutes.

Strategy number two: always go back to the keno stand on time!

Assuming you do not trust yourself to make that five-minute deadline each time, you always retain the option of buying a "multi-race" card. These include the self same set of your chosen numbers on anywhere from 2 to 20 slips. When the max number of keno games (matching the amount of tickets) is finished, you are then able to get off your numb rump and go collect your winnings.

Still another alternative is recognized as a "stray and play" keno ticket, which normally lets you make number picks for 30 rounds or more. Gosh, you can take a world tour and not have to fret about getting back in time to retrieve your numbers. Most "stray and play" cards are good for up to a whole year after it’s bought!
