It won’t ordinarily be deemed the funnest game in the arena of gambling, but keno has millions of passionate supporters. And so it should! It’s a regularly entertaining lotto-type game that’s easy to play, readily available in a number of alternate formats, and one that might yield mega-dollars for those who learn its heaps of subtle intricacies. But let’s begin with the basic rules for now.

When defining keno to newcomers, some gaming pros compare it to the lottery. This is at least in part correct, in that both games are generally numerical. But to take that comparison too far can be to discount the many unique traits that make keno so fun. Not like bingo, keno gamblers have the ability to pick the numbers for each and every card.

Keno cards have a grand total of eighty numbers, but the gambler is granted an increased level of personal responsibility by being able to select as many (or as few) numbers as he feels they need. And it doesn’t take a super genius to come up with how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark all of your desired numbers with a standardmarker like you had when you were in grade 3.

After you have selected your numbers, carry your keno card back to the clerk at the keno booth. The person will record your numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not misplace this (potentially) valuable bit of paper! Even if the clerk remembers you and would like to help out, without a winning slip on you, you will collect exactly $.00 for your time spent.

Now there you have strategy number one: always be sure to keep your keno receipt. Let’s move to something a little more useful, shall we?

Now that you’ve marked your numbers, settle into a nice keno booth and watch the action unfold on the big keno monitor. This is where the winning numbers appear for us. If you have winners, mark your card appropriately. Make sure not to drag your feet, or sit there congratulating yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You want to get up to the keno stand to collect your winnings, and then a new round of keno will probably start up within not too many minutes.

Strategy #2: always be sure to get back to the keno stand on time!

Since you don’t trust yourself to beat that five-minute margin each and every time, you always have the option of using a "multi-race" ticket. These include the self same set of your desired numbers on anywhere from two to 20 tickets. When the maximum number of games (the same as the number of tickets) is completed, you are then able to get off your lazy back side and go redeem your winnings.

Another alternative is known as a "stray and play" keno card, which usually allows you make number picks for thirty games or more. Heck, you can take a Swedish massage and not have to get uptight about getting back in time to retrieve your numbers. Most "stray and play" slips are good for up to a whole year after it’s purchased!

So now you have learned a handful of needed methods for winning keno. If you are a skillful player, they might seem to be incredibly obvious. Still, it does not hurt to brush up on the basic methods, and if you are a novice keno player, every bit of advice will help make your keno gambling more agreeable.
