It won’t generally be deemed the sexiest game in the world of gambling, but keno has tons of steadfast supporters. And it should! It’s a routinely entertaining lottery-ish game that’s easy to master, readily available in a number of assorted formats, and one that can yield millions of dollars for those who master its countless subtle intricacies. But let’s start with the beginner’s rules here.

When explaining keno to newbies, some wagering pros compare it to the lottery. This is at least partly correct, in that each game is essentially numerical. And it doesn’t take a keno superstar to figure out how to fill out a card: all you do is circle or otherwise mark each of your handpicked numbers with a ordinaryball point pen like you used when you were in school.

Once you’ve checked your numbers, take the keno card back to the nice person at the keno booth. The person will record those numbers and then hand you a receipt. Do not drop this (potentially) lucrative piece of paper! Even if the clerk remembers your pretty face and would like to help out, without a winning ticket with you, you will get exactly $.00 for your winning card.

OK, so there you have strategy number one: always take care to keep your keno receipt. Let us get on to something a little more complicated, ok?

Now that you’ve checked off your numbers, settle into a nice keno booth and watch the action unfold on the video monitor. That is where the winning numbers appear for all to see. If you marked winners, mark your card appropriately. Make sure not to move to slowly, or sit there congratulating yourself for an obnoxious length of time. You must get up to the keno booth to collect your winnings, since a new round of keno will most likely get going within not too many minutes.

Strategy #2: always go back to the keno booth on time!

Assuming you can’t trust yourself to meet that 5 minute deadline each time, you always retain the option of buying a "multi-race" card. These include the same set of your handpicked numbers on anywhere from 2 to twenty tickets. When the max amount of games (the same as the amount of tickets) is finished, you should then get off your lazy rump and go get your winnings.

Yet another opportunity is referred to as a "stray and play" keno card, which usually lets you make number choices for thirty rounds or more. Hell, you can take all the time in the world and not have to get uptight about getting back in time to redeem your winnings. Most "stray and play" game cards are good for up to a whole year after purchase!

However, it will not hurt to study up on the basic techniques, and if you are a newbie gambler, every little bit of information will help make your keno playing more entertaining.
